Uniform Code of Military Justice
Article 215. Defense Counsel.
(a) Defense counsel shall represent the lawful interests of the accused independently and diligently.
(b) No military authority may direct defense counsel concerning—
(i) advice provided to the accused;
(ii) defenses asserted;
(iii) motions filed;
(iv) evidence challenged;
(v) a plea recommended;
(vi) an appellate issue presented; or
(vii) another matter of professional judgment.
